Book project is over for now, I had my presentation last friday. This is the three first pages, the book is folded like a accordion and it can be a read page by page or opened. This project has been hard and once again I have realised that a page is a page and a pattern is a pattern. I am quite sure I have learned this now and in the future I will concentrate on either illustration or pattern.

Julform is over and I am more or less dead. Working both day and night this last week makes me long for christmas break even more. Atleast I managed to see the children celebrating lucia at school this year:)

My new pillowcases arrived yesterday. The material is fantastic, velvet. The print (the black is really black!) and the sewing aswell, thanks to Tobex. After Julform I will add them to my shop!

Our kitchen towels came last week, they are sold in two pacs, one polkastriped and one based upon the poster pattern I made earlier this autumn. Today Elisabeth took some photos of them with good help from Klara Bothén. Both Elisabeth and Klara will be participating in Julform and over at the Julform sight you can see Klaras lovley mittens.

Childrens book

Second page in the book is actually the first. I just had to start with second page cause I had an idea. Now I got an idea about most of the pages which makes me feel like taking a long break and "just do it". At the childrens book course I met Lisa Karinsdotter Pålsson and she makes the most beautiful origami decorations. I would like to have stars in the celing when I exhibit at stockholm furniture fair, stars folded out of my patterns. I´m starting this illustration inspired by Lisas folded star.

I won´t try to translate it cause it´s Elisabeths words and I would ruin them. But it tells about the night an the moon and the stars and kids running outside, giggeling and bare footed.

This morning I scanned the first pattern from my book projekt. Every page is also a pattern. I like the koncept but I have to admit that one thing has to adjust itself after the other. I still havn´t figured out what to focus on, pattern or page?

As you might have noticed I am taking some kind of blogbreak. I´ve been here since 2009 and never thought that much about why I blog. Now I´m trying to figure out how to do with vejacecilia and/ if /how I can transform it into Cecilia Pettersson. It needs to be more focused on my work and less about my family.

Julform is taking alot of effort right now, in a fun and good way.
Good things have happend lately!
1. I have been picked to scetch (and compete with 11others for 6 comissions) for a new big public comission.
2. I will exhibit my new wallpaper collection ( at the drawing table right now) that also is a book (text by Elisabeth Dunker and illustrated by me) at the Stockholm furniture fair/green house in february 2012.
3. And the kids turned 6!

Our home is nothing but chaos these days. We have just switched rooms between the bedroom and the livingroom and alot of stuff need a new place. And we are painting in the corridor at the same time. Last friday we picked up this lovley Devon Rex kitten. We call him Hajen, that mean shark in english. I have always been alergic to cats but had high hopes cause Devon Rex is known to fit alergic people. Past days I am sad to say that I have developed all the allergy sympthoms, including asthma. I had to decide today that the cat has to go back to the breeder and I AM SO SAD! He is such lovley little thing, he has a fantastic social ability and he is great with the kids. And the kids love him. This evening little V whispered into his big ear that she loves him. It just breaks my heart that we have to give him up.

Yesterday the pillowcases arrived (from tobex) and in the studio Kristin is working really hard with the curtains, it´s printed on slippery velvet so it´s not just not to sew and expect it to be done. No, it´s moving, moving again then again a little bit wrong and then finally perfect. Thank you kristin, for handling me going crazy and sticking to the plan! And for being my friend.

My ambition was to blog about the bookfair on saturday, somehow something happend (we are moving our bedroom into our livingroom and buildt 3 new wardrobes) and now it´s tuesday, the days are just flying away.

First fair find, this book, "Most beloved sister" by Astrid Lindgren, illustrated by Hans Arnold. What a beauty!

I visited Jan Lööfs exhibition at the art museum yesterday, well worth visiting! I liked his early work the best, it´s very clever and filled with interesting details. His film about "skrot Nisse" is absolutely fantastic, both the making of it, the sets (!) and the dolls and all the details... and the story!

A cuple of hectic days have passed. Yesterday I became a student again, if only for one semester. I will be taking a course in making a childrens book and I am really exited. Today I visited Göteborg book fair and Now I am so filled with inspiration so all I can do is go to sleep! I will blog about the fair tomorrow!

Yesterday I was in the studio for a shortie and I started to pack my things for the big move. Found these very old drawings that I didn´t like much at the time they where drawn, but now I kind of like the squares. Perhaps a new beginning?

I´m spending my days in the sofa (I have realized it´s best for my back after sveral weeks at a chair): editing, editing, editing. Yesterday I sat there between 8:15 in the morning and 1:30 in the night. My indexfinger is hurting and there is no time for cooking so I´m eating yoghurt, cottagecheese (so nice with banana, raw cacaonibs, honey and walnuts) and drinking lots of coffe. And listening to the radio, streaming sommar.

Big trauma last week when V decided to cut her hair, the result was that one side was 10 cm shorter then the other so I had to even it a bit. She was soooooo angry and the worst part for her was that it was she that had started it.

Today I recived my test.prints from Tobex, it´s printed on velvet and on Trevira. I am more then pleased with the result, the colors turned out good and the lines are almost perfect. Almost. Tuesday morning is deadline, until then I need to work day and night.

I Finally printed what I edited in photoshop and I am happily surpriced with the result. I was nervous about the colors and that it might look dirty but the only thing that I had to compromize with was the background color. I would have prefered a yellow shade as in the original dawing (to the left)

Pattern nubmber two is now being edited. First pattern, above surface, took me about 60 more hours then expected, mostly because I treated white as a colour and the white spaces needed to be perfectly clean since it will be digital printed. It will be interesting to see how much time this one takes...

I´m out on deep water right now! Have got a clue about how to make my repatitions work togather (this one and the one called beneath surface) but I´m not sure that it will work. When I went to art school and was focused on painting one of my favourite colours was cadmium orange, in this project cadmium orange came to be a big part, surprice for me!

Putting my last hand to this, I am adding a boat, some orange flowers maby on more bird and some leafs. Pattern number two is based on this one and they can be repeated togather. My plan to stay at the summerhouse and work there (and also be able to help the man with the kids) has turned out good! I´m impressed with my lust for work. I get to draw about half the day when the kids are doing something else, then I let myself take the rest of the day off and do something with them, like going to the beach.

Trying to figure out weather or not my pattern should be straight repeated or shifted. From the beginning My repetition was supposed to be 135 cm wide and straight repeated, now I decided to make it 67,5 and then I can shift it a bit if i want to. Most of the time I prefer shifted patterns since the straight once can look striped.

(First image is straight repeated, next is shifted about 30 %.

Working right now is like a rollercoaster: I love it one minute and dread it the next. I get one idea, test it and then I hate the result. Finally working with colurs, after weeks of not knowing how to. I guess I thought so much about it so when I finally started it was kind of easy. I Bought a new lightpad, since I love to work in the sofa infront of the tv late in the evening I needed one that had shaper light and that was easy to lay on my lap. Weekend is over again. Even though it was nice weather outside today we decided to stay in, just drawing and playing. Sometimes the sun takes my strenght and I´m not much of a sunchaser. Right now I have alot of things to draw and I am happy that I´m starting to find the expression I am looking for. So looking forward to go to the tudio tomorrow afternoon.

Next week I will teach a summerclass for teenagers, it´s about drawing and illustration. First lesson will be to draw animals and work with their caracter. It´s been many years since I teached kids, it will be intereting to see the diffrence from my ordinary classes.

When we came to kindergarden this morning it was, to our surprice, closed! Since I had a whole day of studiotime planned there was nothing to but to bring the kids there. It was nice... but the work time is about 75% less!

White is a colour!

Right now I´m trying to focus on "white is a colour" when I´m drawing. As you can see in the old drawing above my intentions are to work with white as a colour but at the end the paper is filled and there is no space to breathe. What I really mean is that I have a problem to STOP. Treating the paper as a colour is one of the methods I will be test to be able to stop at a point where the drawing still is interesting instead of overdone. I will also use my scanner, draw small pieces and then put things togather in photoshop. And then there is the scale issue. I usually draw everything in the same scale. Now I´m working on different sizes of paper and with different pens, just to prevent to end up with everything in the same scale.

I will show you tomorrow, the ligts was so bad so the photos are to dark to post.

I´m thinkig.
I grew up in a small town with lawns everywhere and lakes nearby, the woods around the corner and the bicycle or by foot when transport was needed. People knew eachother and it was very safe. I always thought my kids would grew up at a place like that. During summertime I miss the cuntryside and the smalltown feeling, and it makes me think about: what if we should move. what if?

Working. Each of my two repetitions are supposed to be 135 cm wide and 100 cm high. I draw in pretty small scale and when I decided the size I did it to challange my self to work with the scale. Finelining

Trying my new copic fineline markers. Ohh, me like! Pens are my drug, and these are truly addictive. The brush nib is close to fantastic, it can make sooo thin lines and also wider ones. They come in 12 colors, and about 5 of them is something extra.
I´m actually thinking about opening my own penstore, with my favourite markers and nice paper. I have big trouble finding what I need here in Gothenburg, that must mean more people having the same problem. It´s just a thought, but still, a nice thought.

Public comission: colours

The colors that where decided from the beginning, by the architect of the building, is mainly concentrated to the flooring. The walls are pale white. There was a red glass that I managed to get rid off, and one of the green colours, the cold on, will be in another room than my curtain. But still, the colours are not really "my colours".
First I thought about picking the colors from from the textile print Pythagoras by Sven Markelius (see a blue version on the right side, there is also a red one.) I have always loved the color schemes and they suits the flooring of the room. Then I got my eyes on copic fineliner set with 12 colors, and I decided to try and use only those twelve colors. I had a hard time ordering them and when I finally managed there was circumstances that got the delivery delayed 2 months. I had to let go of that idea.
(I got the pens today. I will blog about the set torrow)
I was very happy when I stumbled upon the book "west coast" by Tore Hagman last saturday. I discovered "the colours" in some images with westcoast feeling (see above) and since the theme is water and fishes and westcoast it feels perfect. I actually think the colors work togather quite well, so now I feel as if I can manage to approach the project with colour!

I have an idea about where I´m going with this project but right now I´m going with the flow. Graphite drawing has suddenly turned into something giving for me, I guess it´s because I don´t work with colours yet and the possibility to erase is not to be underestimated.
I know that there will be two different patterns, one that is describing whats below the water surface and one that is describing whats over the surface. Both patterns will come in two different colour palettes. (some back tomorrow and I´ll show you my color thoughts!) and they can be combined.
I´m so happy that I was given this opportunity to do this project, there are so many drawings stuck in me after months of other work, I hope this will be a happy journey until it´s supposed to be printed and done in august!

I am up to my head in paperwork all week, drawing fishes all night (for my comission). In between I´m trying to find my "language" when it comes to drawing figurative, or in this case, cutting figurative. I don´t know if I would call my work abstract, but in illustration world it is. So more people in the drawings!

Today I´m goint through old stuff, finding loose ends. I like the top one. It turned into the second one after weeks of work. Quite a long process and ended up almost impossible to recognize.

In the evenings I´m drawing on the patterns for my public comission. My drawing pal little J is also working, making his own interpretation of my work. I just love that I´m having these moments with my kids, I never thought I would be able to share that part of me with someone.

The Stockholm trip gave more than I expected. I had some great meetings and I finally found a shop that sells the tria markers with the ultra fine nibs! Now I´ve got 72 new ones to start some new Stockholm based projects with!
The super mario mushrooms are gifts to the kids from Niklas. They liked them so much that they wanted to bring them to kindergarden this morning!

Trying to figure out what it is that I do (read: draw), first by gathering images and then explaining in words. So far i have figured out that I am intrested in shapes.

Dead flowers turn into dryed flowers

last week I bought some almost dead flowers and then I put them to dry. Now they are flat but still beautiful. Things like that inspire me.

Julie Nord at Akvarell museet

V and I went to see the Julie Nord exhibiton at Nordiska Akvarell Museet. V thought the drawings where scary and she wanted to leave after five minutes.
Julie Nord is an artist I like and often refer to when I teach, so I had really looked forward to see things IRL. The size of the works what was suprised me the most, I knew that they where big but still I was amazed how HUGE some of the drawings was. Her way to handle the inc is interesting for me as an artist and I must say it was a bit dissapointing. Here work is nice from a distance but upcloe they lose their charm, I can see that she was short of time and the lines are sometimes a bit half done. (You know how lines is important for me!) It´s here compositions that strikes me as most interesting: how she leaves some spaces white and how she dares to make things black. And also the stories that are told. How she works with color is still something to think about. I´m not sure if i like it or not. I prefer her black/white work. GO see!

Went to the fleamarket and V bought herself a jumping rope (is that what it´s called?) and then she practised and practised and then she practised some more. Finally she got the hang of it and she was very proud. The first thing she did this morning was to out on cloths and go outside and jump.

We are at the summerhouse over the weekend. Spring is here and it´s just super nice. Autumn is my favourite season but every time pring comes it takes my breath away. Being here in April is sitting infront of the fireplace in the evening with some red wine and book that was supposed to be read ages ago and then waking up early morning to birds singing and sun finding it´s way inside.

This semesters teaching is almost over for me. These shots are from the last lesson with my illustration class. Talanted and lovley student, I wish I could continue following them in their work. This project was about drawing big and doing something together. They choose to draw a street.

Tonight I had a lovley dinner with Karin, Elisabeth and Pernilla. When I bought the wine at systembolaget I was asked for ID at the counter, there is an age limit in sweden, one has to be 20. I will live on this forever:)
